Is coffee a necessity?

When Shannie asked me to do this challenge with her I was a little skeptical at first. I remember asking her what was considered to be a necessity and her response was "what you need to live your day to day life". I thought sounds good I can do that, it was impeccably good timing too since midterms were right around the corner I figured I would probably spend most of my time in the library anyways.

The first day that I started the challenge I already lost. I went to grab coffee with my older brother who came to visit and I bought a latte. There was no way I could justify that as a necessity. Shannie let me start over the next day and I can proudly say that I made it the whole two weeks without buying anything other than groceries, gas, and paying bills! Along the way, I never realized how much money I spent at Starbucks before I did this challenge. I never thought I spent as much as I did but $4 day really adds up and at the end of the two weeks I saved almost $50 that I was spending one coffee before.

After doing this challenge I feel a lot more aware and conscious of how and when I'm spending money. There is a Starbucks on the way to the library which is very strategic placement and that is when I used to always buy my coffee since it was convenient. Now I can walk past it and know that I am saving my money and I feel a lot more in control of my spending. I am so grateful I had this experience and could take away what I have from it.
